A NATIONAL RECORD DOWN & MORE QUALIFICATIONS FOR MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 4th BAA track and field series held at the National Stadium, Gaborone bore good results with a national record set and athletes qualifying for major championships scheduled in the 2022 calendar.

Letsile Tebogo pulled a great show for the day to set a new national record in the men's 100m. The teenage sprinter effortlessly clocked 10.08, to break his previous record which he set hardly a year ago. With this time, the Lefika Athletics Club athlete qualified for the World U20 Championships, Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games as well as the Africa Senior Championships. He is coached by Dose Mosimanyane.

In another interesting heat, Lion's Den Athletics Club athletes Tsaone Sebele and Oarabile Tshosa pushed each other to personal best times in the women's 100m of 11.43 and 11.50 respectively. Tsaone Sebele's time qualifies her for the Africa Senior Championships in the women's 100m. She is coached by fellow athlete Tlhalosang Tshireletso. Tshosa on the other hand has already qualified for the Africa Senior Championships and  trains under the guidance of Ofentse Jele.

Lundi Pinaemang, a short sprinter who was registered for the 400m in the junior category as part of his 2022 season preparations, clocked a time of 47.60, that qualifies him for the Cali 2022 World U20 Championships in 400m. The Jwaneng Athletics Club athlete trains under the tutelage of coach Chilume "Chippa" Ntshwarang.

Thapelo Monaiwa of University of Botswana Athletics Club leaped to a personal best jump of 7.95m, earning a qualification for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games as well as Africa Senior Championships. The jumper is coached by Larona Koosimile.

Lion's Den Athletics Club's Thuto Masasa bettered his personal best time in the men's 100m to 10.38, a qualifying time for the Africa Senior Championships in the men's 100m. He recently qualified for the same Championships in the men's 200m. He is coached by Ofentse Jele.

Anthony Pesela of Maun BDF Athletics Club ran 46.42, a time that qualifies him for the Africa Senior Championships. His club mate Boitshepiso Kelapile in the women's 100m registered a time of 11.94, which qualifies her for the Africa Senior Championships. They are coached  by Meleko "Max" Ndolo.
