Gaborone: The Botswana National Sport Commission wishes to inform its stakeholders and members of the public that it has taken a decision to combine the 2021 and 2022 Botswana Sport Awards.
This is in light of the limited sport activity in both 2020 and 2021 calendar years in recognition of there not being enough scope as a result of only few National Sport Associations (NSAs) and/ or athletes having had activities due to COVID-19 induced restrictions.
The plan is to have awards ceremonies revert to their traditional period of March/April as opposed to later in the year as has been the case over the last years. This often leads to confusion when it would appear that some athletes and/ or teams that performed well are left out, when in fact the awards would be focussing on performances from a prior period that would have ended some seven or so months earlier.
Given all the above, The Board approved that the years 2020 and 2021 be combined and one ceremony be held in respect of those and a better scope to return the awards to as early as possible.
The awards are being planned for either Saturday 19th or Saturday 26th March 2022. The date will be confirmed as soon as discussions with stakeholders have been concluded.
