After an unforgiving lull of nearly 24 months, Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) will rekindle with Cricket, as they host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers at the BCA Ovals in Gaborone, from 7 – 20 September 2021. The much-awaited return to competitive international cricket competition might allow the Botswana women’s cricket national team to get an act of sweet revenge after they lost to Nigeria by three wickets at the 2021 Kwibuka T20 Women’s tournament, in Rwanda. This is also the first tournament of this nature under the ICC banner to be hosted by BCA and the first on the continent under the pandemic period.
This tournament is the Africa Qualifiers where eleven (11) teams will vie for the sole coveted spot to proceed to the Global Qualifiers, to be played in 2022. The participating nations are Cameroon, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Mozambique, Eswatini, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and hosts Botswana.
UNFORTUNATELY DUE TO THE PANDEMIC SPECTATORS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED AT THE GROUNDS AT ANY TIME (as per national protocol) and the games will be streamed live in lieu of the contract between IMG and ICC; the link will be made available before the commencement of the tournament.
All the best to our ladies, Botswana is rooting for you
