Botswana swimmer, Andile Bekker is the second Motswana to win a gold medal at the on-going CANA Zone IV Championships 2020.
Bekker won the medal in the 100 m backstroke 15-16 years category, with a time of 1:02.37,followed by Namibian Burger with 1;03.12,while position three went to Ah Yong Victor of Mauritius with 1:02.00.
The first swimmer to win gold was James Freeman in the 800 metres freestyle with a time of 8:39.05, while Bekker won silver in the same event with 8:56.88,
Still at the competition in the women category Botswana swimmer Ruvarashe Gondo, won a silver medal with 36, 57 in the 50 metres breaststroke 17 years category.
In the women 12 and Under category, 50 metres Breaststroke, hang, Ji-eun made the country proud by winning a silver medal with a time of 38,88.
In men 15 and over, 200 metre medley relay, Botswana quartet made up of Andile Bekker, Ethan Fischer, James Freeman, and Solomon Dzingai won a silver.
The women team made of Tselane Matthews, Shamiso Matonhodze, Caitlin Loo, and Maxine Egner also did not disappoint as they also won a silver.
Botswana also won a bronze in the 14 and under women 200metre medley relay. The team was made up of Michelle Jack, Amaru Ditlhogo, Mutinda Mutie, and Kyra Harry,
Botswana is hosting the swimming Championships which are expected to end on February 23. BOPA
